Hello! Welcome to The Obsession Club.
What follows is a rundown of the main features and mechanics currently available on the site. This is intended both as an introduction for new users and as reference material for existing users who have forgotten where a particular button is located.
This guide documents features that are currently live. Planned, unfinished, retired, and imaginary systems are not included.
Posts and Discussion
Posts and comments form the main discussion system of The Obsession Club.
Users can create threads, reply to other users, vote on content, receive notifications, and participate in conversations without compressing every thought into a temporary chat message.
Creating Posts
Users can create a new thread through the post submission page.
A post contains a title and a body. The body can be used for discussion, explanations, links, images, sources, questions, announcements, or other content permitted under the site rules.
Titles should give users a reasonable idea of what they are opening. The body can then contain the necessary context, evidence, argument, or psychological deterioration.
Comments and Replies
Every post has its own comment section.
Comments can receive direct replies, allowing separate conversation chains to form underneath the original post. Use the reply control attached to a particular comment when responding to it so that your response appears in the correct part of the discussion.
Voting
Posts and comments can be voted on by other users.
Voting changes the visible score attached to the content and allows the community to react to what is posted.
Voting and reporting are separate actions. A vote expresses an opinion about the content. A report asks the administration to review it for a possible rule violation.
Formatting and Media
The post and comment editors support formatting tools for organising text and including supported media.
Formatting options are explained through the Formatting help link beneath the editor. Depending on the available controls, users can format text, add links, structure longer posts, and include supported images or media.
Formatting exists to make posts easier to read. Applying the largest possible heading to every sentence does not make the argument more important.
Profiles
Every registered user has a public profile.
Profiles contain the user's public information, activity, badges, visual customisation, and other details they have chosen to display.
Profile Information
Users can customise the public-facing parts of their account, including available options such as:
Profile picture
Profile banner
Biography
Profile anthem
Connected accounts
Other identity and presentation settings
These details appear on the user's profile and may also appear beside their posts and comments where appropriate.
Profile Anthems
Users can attach a profile anthem to their account.
The anthem plays when the profile is visited, subject to the visitor's browser and personal settings. It allows each profile to have its own soundtrack in addition to its visual design.
Visitors may permanently associate the selected song with the user, so choose with the appropriate level of irresponsibility.
Personal Settings
Account and profile controls are available through the Personal Settings page.
This area contains options for managing the user's public profile, connected accounts, and other account-specific preferences. Public settings affect what other users see, while personal browsing options affect the experience of the account using them.
Changes should be saved before leaving the page. This advice has prevented several seconds of confusion throughout human history.
Connections
The Connections section in Settings allows users to link supported external accounts to their Obsession Club profile.
Available connections include services such as:
Discord
Steam
GitHub
Other supported platforms
Each connection can be managed separately. Users can also choose whether a linked account is displayed publicly on their profile.
This makes it possible to show visitors where else you can be found without manually filling your biography with a collection of unrelated links. Connections that are not set to display remain hidden from the public profile.
Custom CSS
Custom CSS gives users considerably more control over their profile's appearance than the standard profile settings alone.
CSS can be used to change or add visual details including:
Text and accent colours
Background colours, images, and gradients
Borders and outlines
Shadows and glowing effects
Fonts and text styling
Transparency and blur
Spacing and element positioning
Hover effects
Animations and transitions
Other supported visual modifications
This allows users to create profiles with substantially different visual identities rather than using the same basic layout with a different banner.
Custom CSS affects appearance only. It does not grant additional permissions, reveal private information, or alter the site's underlying functionality.
Users should test their CSS carefully. Aggressive positioning, fixed widths, excessive animation, and enormous background images may look acceptable on one screen while turning the mobile version into an archaeological site.
It is recommended that users keep a backup of any working stylesheet before replacing it.
Before CSS:
After CSS (please ignore my poor CSS, it's only for testing.):
Notifications
The notification system informs users about activity involving their account.
Notifications may be generated by replies, mentions, account interactions, administrative notices, and other relevant site activity.
Unread notifications are visually distinguished from notifications that have already been viewed. Selecting one opens the post, comment, profile, or page connected to it.
The notification system is generally more efficient than manually reopening every thread in which you have ever spoken.
Public Chat
The Obsession Club includes a native public chat for live conversation.
Chat is intended for immediate discussion, casual conversation, reactions to ongoing events, and exchanges that do not require their own permanent thread.
Posts remain the better format for discussions that need a title, lasting page, structured comment section, attached sources, or media. Chat is better suited to conversation happening in the moment.
Chat messages remain connected to site accounts and are covered by the same general rules as other public activity.
The public chat can be accessed through the site's chat navigation or from the Chat page.
Awards
Awards can be applied through the site's award system.
They may be used to recognise, decorate, react to, or otherwise affect users and their content, depending on the particular award.
Each award may have its own appearance, description, requirement, cost, or effect. Users should consult the award interface for the current behaviour of an individual award, as awards may be added or adjusted over time.
Awards are separate from badges. Awards are given through the award system, while badges are permanently or temporarily attached to user accounts according to their own requirements.
Badges
Badges are collectible graphics displayed on user accounts.
They may represent achievements, contributions, supporter status, participation in site events, administrative recognition, or other distinctions.
Some badges may remain permanently obtainable, while others may only be available during a particular event or under specific conditions such as award.
A user's collected badges are displayed on their profile and may also appear in other relevant parts of the interface.
Badges are issued according to their individual requirements. Repeatedly asking an administrator for one is not an undocumented requirement.
Supporting The Obsession Club
Users who wish to help fund the site's hosting, maintenance, and continued development can do so through the Support page.
Supporters will receive account benefits or cosmetic extras according to the options currently listed on that page.
Supporting the site contributes to its operation. It does not purchase administrative authority, immunity from the rules, or ownership of the developers.
Reports and Moderation
The Obsession Club has site rules and administrative systems for reviewing reports, managing accounts, and handling content that requires intervention.
Reports
Posts and comments can be reported through their attached controls.
Reports should be used when content genuinely requires administrative review. A report is not a replacement downvote, a method of continuing an argument privately, or a request for the administration to confirm that another user is annoying.
When reporting a technical problem rather than a rule violation, use the site's bug-reporting thread instead.
Administration
Administrators have dedicated tools for managing accounts, posts, comments, awards, badges, reports, and other site systems.
These controls are restricted to authorised accounts. Staff-only options will not appear for ordinary users, which is intentional rather than a rendering bug.
All public activity, including posts, comments, profiles, custom CSS, uploaded media, and public chat, remains subject to the current site rules.
Official Reference Threads
The following permanent threads are used for site feedback and updates.
Bugs and Suggestions
Technical problems, visual issues, broken features, and suggestions should be posted in the bugs and suggestions megathread.
Useful bug reports should explain what happened, what was expected to happen, how the issue can be reproduced, and which browser or device was being used.
Screenshots and screen recordings are strongly encouraged.
Changelog and Site Updates
New features, important changes, interface improvements, and significant fixes are recorded in the changelog and site updates megathread.
Users can subscribe to that thread to receive notifications when new update comments are posted.
Checking the changelog before reporting a bug is recommended, as the apparent problem may already have been fixed, acknowledged, or deliberately introduced.
Continued Development
The Obsession Club is under active development.
Existing systems may receive visual changes, fixes, new options, and additional content after this guide is published. Major user-facing changes will be documented through official announcements or the changelog thread.
Smaller fixes and invisible technical changes may be deployed without receiving their own ceremonial announcement.
This page should be treated as a living document and will be corrected, expanded, or reorganised as the site develops.

This is my signature and if you're a tier 3 or higher patron, you can add this in settings. It will show under every thread/comment you post.
